Understanding EMF Shielding Figures
Shielding percentages and decibel (dB) values
The shielding percentages and decibel (dB) values quoted for our EMF protective clothing refer to the shielding fabric, not the finished garment.
Shielding performance varies with frequency. Where a shielding graph is provided, it shows the fabric's measured shielding effectiveness across the frequencies indicated.
The shielding effectiveness of a finished garment may be lower than the fabric's measured performance because of openings, seams, fit and the way the garment is worn. Performance can also be affected by washing, wear and other conditions.
Shielding percentages are calculated from power attenuation. For reference:
-
40 dB = 99.99%
-
43 dB = approximately 99.995%
-
50 dB = 99.999%
-
60 dB = 99.9999%
What types of radiation does the fabric shield?
Our shielding fabrics are designed to reduce radio-frequency (RF) and microwave radiation. They do not provide shielding against low-frequency magnetic fields, such as those associated with power lines and household appliances.
Product use and health claims
Our products are designed for electromagnetic shielding purposes. They are not medical devices and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or medical condition. No claims are made that wearing these products will prevent or treat health conditions.
