Ultra Broadband Antenna for Wider RF Measurement
The Gigahertz Solutions UBB27_G3 is a quasi-isotropic ultra broadband antenna designed to extend the frequency coverage of compatible Gigahertz Solutions high-frequency EMF meters. It covers frequencies from 27 MHz to beyond 3.3 GHz, allowing a much wider range of radio-frequency sources to be measured with a compatible analyser.
The UBB27_G3 is particularly useful when you need to investigate RF sources below 700 MHz, carry out broad measurements of total RF exposure, or make longer-term measurements where a non-directional measurement characteristic is preferred.
Wide Frequency Range from 27 MHz to Beyond 3.3 GHz
Unlike the standard LogPer antennas supplied with many Gigahertz Solutions RF meters, the UBB27_G3 starts at 27 MHz. This extends measurement into lower-frequency RF bands while still covering the higher-frequency ranges used by many modern wireless technologies.
Depending on the capabilities of the connected HF analyser, the antenna can be used to measure sources including CB and amateur radio, directional radio, analogue and digital radio and television, TETRA, GSM, radar, DECT, UMTS and WLAN/Wi-Fi, as well as other RF sources within its frequency range.
The actual usable frequency range is also determined by the frequency response and specifications of the connected HF analyser.
Quasi-Isotropic Measurement
The UBB27_G3 has a horizontal isotropic directional pattern, allowing RF fields to be measured without having to point the antenna directly towards the source. This is particularly useful when measuring overall RF exposure rather than trying to locate a specific transmitter.
This measurement characteristic can be useful for longer-term measurements, broad surveys and assessing the total RF field at a particular location.
Useful for Measuring Total RF Exposure
When investigating a location, several RF sources may be present at the same time. The UBB27_G3 provides a broad, non-directional measurement approach that can be useful for assessing the combined RF exposure at the measurement position.
For measurements where the objective is to identify the direction or location of a particular RF source, a directional LogPer antenna is generally more appropriate. The UBB27_G3 and LogPer antenna therefore serve different purposes and can complement each other when used with a compatible analyser.
Detecting Localised RF Hot Spots
The compact UBB27_G3 design incorporates a small resonator that can help identify localised high-field areas or so-called “hot spots”. This can be useful when surveying a room or other environment and looking for variations in RF field strength.
Compatible Gigahertz Solutions Meters
The UBB27_G3 is designed for direct attachment to compatible Gigahertz Solutions high-frequency analysers, including the HFE35C, HF59B and HFE59B.
For the HF59B in particular, the UBB27_G3 extends the measurement capability below the 700 MHz starting frequency of the supplied LogPer antenna. It can therefore be used when lower-frequency RF sources need to be measured quantitatively.
UBB27_G3 or LogPer Antenna?
The two antenna types are designed for different measurement tasks:
| Measurement requirement | UBB27_G3 | LogPer antenna |
|---|---|---|
| Measure below 700 MHz | Yes | No |
| Frequency coverage | 27 MHz to beyond 3.3 GHz* | Typically from 700 MHz upwards* |
| Measurement characteristic | Quasi-isotropic / non-directional | Directional |
| Overall RF exposure surveys | Well suited | Less suited |
| Long-term measurements | Particularly useful | More directional |
| Locating a specific RF source | Limited | Better suited |
*The effective frequency range is limited by the frequency response and specifications of the connected HF analyser.
Direct Connection to Compatible Analysers
The UBB27_G3 attaches directly to the compatible Gigahertz Solutions analyser. The supplied accessories include an SMA right-angle connector and an untwisting tool for installation and removal.

UBB27_G3 for Broadband RF Measurements
The UBB27_G3 is a useful addition when a compatible Gigahertz Solutions HF analyser needs broader frequency coverage or a quasi-isotropic measurement characteristic. With coverage starting at 27 MHz, it allows lower-frequency RF sources to be investigated alongside the higher-frequency sources covered by the same measurement system.
For general surveys and longer-term measurements, its non-directional measurement characteristic can be particularly useful. When the aim is to locate and identify a specific RF source, the directional LogPer antenna provides a different measurement approach. Used together, the two antenna types allow the same compatible analyser to be used for different RF measurement tasks.
